SEO - Social Networking
There are many Social Networking sites, with more and more appearing every week. In the United States, Facebook's Unique Users overtook google's in February 2010 for the first time (ref The Economist Magazine), emphasising the future importance of Social Networking as a means of communication on-line.
So what does this mean for you? We are not going to replicate all of the instructions for how to create accounts and how to update them here - perfectly good links to the main sites are listed below and we suggest you take a look at how easy it is to get started. The main concern for us as your SEO advisers is to establish a couple of key points for your campaign:
1. Where are your prospective clients?
- If you are targeting Professional Business People, your focus should be on LinkedIn.com which is the rapidly growing social networking site favoured by this target market.
- If you are targeting young people, then MySpace or Bebo will be worth developing as core to your strategy.
- Facebook is ideal for the general population - and it has many facilities that are useful to businesses.
It is important that you research your Social Networking preferences and then focus on the one or two that are most relevant to your enterprise.
2. What is your own commitment?
Are you well organised naturally? Do you have time to find interesting topics? Is your daily activity exciting enough for your clients to be interested in what you do? Do you have your own products or services to promote on a regular basis?
There is a high level of commitment involved in Social Networking - and you need to make it an integral part of your daily routine.
