Search Engine Optimisation - RSS Feeds
Although they've been around for a long time, the popularity of RSS Feeds has grown significantly with the success of smartphones such as the Apple iPhone. RSS Feeds work on a very simple premise - if you are interested, you simply add the feed to your RSS Feed reader. Simple, eh? Well, RSS does stand for "Really Simple Syndication", and here's how it works...
When you find a feed that you are interested in you click on the RSS logo, and then you will be invited to subscribe in a couple of different ways - just choose the one that suits you.
To view RSS feeds, you can either:
- Look for them on your Internet Browser - google, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and all of the others have easily downloadable RSS Readers
- You can view them in Microsoft Outlook - again, there is a folder for RSS Feeds and they will automatically appear there
- Your iPhone (or smartphone equivalent) will download them for you, and you can read them at your convenience on your mobile.
The main advantage of RSS Feeds to your clients is that they enable access to your news without sharing any personal data, and they are delivered in convenient ways that are flexible and very portable. If you haven't considered one for your site yet, perhaps now is the time. Of all of the methods of imparting information, this one really is very Easy!
